At the moment Hag's Head is commissioning and welcoming submissions of novellas. We are hoping to release several short works in the autumn of 2009 and spring of 2010.

Judith Leibowitz defined the novella thus: 'Wheras the short story limits material and the novel extends it, the novella does both in such a way that a special kind of narrative structure results, one [that] produces a generically distinct effect: the double effect of intensity and expansion. Regardless of technique, if the modern novella is distinguished from other fictional forms by this narrative purpose, it can be described as an intensive analysis of a limited area with wide, undeveloped implications.' (Narrative Purpose in the Novella, 1974) This strikes us as a perfect project for Hag's Head, where we also fall between two camps—those of self-publishing and independent publishing—not least because we welcome the challenge of taking on something many publishers avoid. For more information on the shape and progress of this project, or to send a submission, please email info@hagsheadpress.com.

As always, we'd also like to remind book clubs based in Galway, Dublin, Limerick or Tralee that our authors are available to appear in person. For book clubs based elsewhere, authors are happy to participate in telephone discussions of their work. Please email info@hagsheadpress.com for more information.
